Bo, the Obamas' 6-month-old Portuguese water dog, proved Tuesday that he has "star quality" with his rambunctious debut at the White House. And now he, and the president, will star in the children's book Bo, America's Commander in Leash by Naren Aryal, illustrated by Danny Moore (Mascot Books), expected to be in stores next week.
And what a busy boy Bo is! The book begins with Bo stealing the president's letter opener, and he's off and running for the next 25 pages. Flying off the Obama girls' swing. Running from bees near the first lady's vegetable garden. Putting green dye in the fountain for St. Patrick's Day. He even serves up a summer burger to Vice President Biden.
Dog lovers will be most amused by the fact that Bo, like most dogs, loves to stick his head out of a vehicle's window to catch the breeze. No car for Bo, though. This time Bo is enjoying the view and breeze from the window of the president's helicopter.
It all ends with Bo, exhausted by his day's activities at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., dreaming about the lucky White House pets who have preceded him.
The $14.95 book, aimed at kids 4 to 10, has been in the works for two months, says Aryal, publisher of Mascot, which specializes in books about team and school mascots. Aryal says he wrote a story narrated by a mischievous White House puppy and added details once Bo's identity was known. (The book is also available from mascotbooks.com.)
I think $14.95 is way too much money for a book for kids, how many parents have that kind of money when they need food, gas, clothes, etc. This is all we need another book with the Imposter involved. GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK!
