I'm Growing Monarchs

Today I went out to look at some of my plants and look what I found.  I have about 4 milkweed plants that grow wild, and today I am growing Monarchs. I saw a Monarch butterfly a couple weeks ago and she must have been looking for a place to lay her eggs and she picked my yard.  I can't wait to see if I actually get butterflies from these caterpillars.

Giraffe Cam Starts Today Every Tuesday

The Giraffe Cam returns today, and every Tuesday from 4 PM - 8 PM Eastern. Why this time frame?
1) Soon the giraffes are outside, and you will be watching an empty stall, but with our closing daily at 5 pm - you will have hours of enjoyment while they retire for the evening.
2) It allows us to capture the majority of our major fan bases (worldwide) at a relatively decent time in their daily routines.

April and The Nest Cup

I love it when April lays down and puts her head on her belly.  She looks like the eagles when they tuck their head in their wing.  The camera goes down on the giraffes tomorrow at 4:30pm Eastern time. I will miss watching them and seeing the baby grow.

Mom has been working on a new nest cup as the first one is now too small to hold the growing babies.

That's a Lot of Grass

Not sure what mom is doing, building a grass hut maybe.  But today there has been a lot of grass brought in.  Who are these babies and what did they do with the little dandelion heads?  Every time I look in they are eating.  But dad is a good provider and there is always some kind of meat to feed them with. Good thing they live by the hatchery.  Trout or sucker or squirrel or rabbit or bird or a pig last week.  Got to have their bacon.

Spring Flowers

It is that time of year where the Spring flowers are in bloom and oh so pretty.  I have all purple irises, i need to get some of other colors.  I planted the little colorful flowers to get them started and to the left is one aster left from last year that has buds.  My pansies and violas are in full bloom and won't last much longer as they are not hot weather flowers.  I have marigolds coming up from last year and will get my seeds going next week to get some color in the beds soon.

Is That All Mine?

The nest cup is pretty much gone, no longer fit in your hand, and their wings are flapping, ready to see what is out there for them.  They are starting to wobble on their legs and move further away from the parents.  There will be plenty of viewing their world from the crib rails, the poop shots will be going over the crib rails and there will be gasps when we think they get too close.  What happened to those little dandelion heads that were oh so small.

Baby Giraffe

This afternoon the baby has been trying not to wobble while learning to use those long legs.  It was skipping around awhile ago, so cute.  This is nose to nose with dad.  I don't know if it is a boy or girl but it is so cute.

The Baby is Here

This morning I get up and check on the eagles.  All is well.  Then I check on April and what is that?  OMG there are hooves popping out.  So about 3 hours later the baby is here and so cute.

Looks Like a Carrot To Me

They are growing like weeds.  The baby talons look like carrots with a spike on the end.

We all know what happens when they back up, you better duck unless you want to get hit by the PS.

The Shack

I read the book over a year ago and loved it. I saw the movie today and loved it even more.  I know there are those out there who think the book is anti-Christian and full of un-truths.  I don't believe that is true.  I do believe that the God I believe in can do anything to help deal with the grief and loss and guilt they feel over something that happened in their life.  It is about a man who can not deal with the loss of his child and learns to deal with the tragedy in his and his family's lives.  It is not a movie for everyone but if you read the book and liked it go see the movie because the book comes alive and a couple things make more sense in how they chose the people to play God in the movie.  It is one of those movies that you truly need to spend the rest of the day not doing much because it will wipe you out.  And take lots of kleenex.

The First Escapee

Every year there is one that just has to be outside the nest cup and it has barely been a week and my bet is this is D26.

Is it Christmas Already?

My Christmas Cactus is blooming and it looks like a double bloom. Also my shamrock is blooming as well. It appears to be happier in the kitchen than in the room with the rest of the plants.

Look How Big They Are Already

Squirrel or fish, take your pick for dinner.

April and Oliver

SQUEEEEE

Can they get any cuter

You Can Barely See Me

D27 is almost here! Thanks to Glogdog for the cap.  Look at the egg in the middle beside D26 and you can see D27 part way out.

D27 on the Way

It appears D27 is halfway out of the shell so today we will have another new eagle to celebrate.  Now if only April would have that baby giraffe, well she will when she is ready.
