Where Did They Go?

Just a few days ago we were watching the little dandelion heads cuddle up with mom and wonder what was gonna happen that day. Now they are walking around the nest and you can see the feathers coming on.  This afternoon dad the wonder dad brought in 2 small fish at one time and they were still flip flopping.  Last year we actually watched a fish flop off the nest, nothing like fresh fish for dinner.
Not sure what mom is watching in the one picture.

Something Good out of Something Bad

http://thegazette.com/subject/news/safety-measures-coming-to-eagles-perches-20150421

We all know power poles are not a friend to the eagles.  We recently lost one of the Decorah eagles almost a year old to electrocution.  The wonderful power company in the area is trying to help make sure we don't lose another one in this area.  Thank You for caring about the eagles.

Happy Birthday Bucky

My youngest turns 11 today, where has the time gone.  It is tiring being 11.  Hermione used to nap in this rocker and now Bucky has taken it over, channeling her big sister?

First Iris

It seems a bit early for the iris to be blooming but then we had a 75 degree day in January.  We had some bitter cold days but only about a foot of snow and it was very dry.  So all in all a very mild winter for here and thankfully no ice.

So I give you the first Iris of the year.

Joanne

Are you looking for a new shawl?  Need a quick gift, perhaps for Mother's Day or a wedding coming up.  A friend of mine published her new shawl pattern.  BTW the pictures are my test sample for her.

D20 turned 1 yesterday

~ Decorah Training Update ~
For more details on Decorah's training, please visit the SOAR website. The latest post is here: http://www.soarraptors.org/#AprilUpdate
Not only was yesterday (7 April) a happy hatch-day for Decorah, but was a day of training for Decorah and Terrie!
...
Terrie traveled to SOAR to work with Kay on eagle handling. So, not only was Decorah a trainee, but also served in the role of trainer. Working with an eagle is MUCH different than other education birds!
Kay handed off Decorah to Terrie to hold so Kay could hood him and then put on bracelets and jesses! Hoods are used to help calm birds when being handled and helps to keep handler and bird safe. Decorah has a very large beak and when cast (cradled and held by the feet), the beak is what can do harm to the holder.
So.. new bracelets and jesses, new tail feathers (again), a cleaned room, and a fish-cake! Not a bad day at all! We all hope these new tail feathers will grow in all the way, time will tell.

I Have No Idea

what we are eating today.  But there is plenty of food whatever it is.  It is to rain so maybe dad is stocking the pantry like here when they predict snow everyone runs to the grocery store.

I have no idea what the food is, the one right in front of the babies looks almost like apig and the fur well rabbit?
This looks like a flicker when mom de-feathered it.  So sad cos I love my flickers.

Can you see me?

The mock apple and redbud tree are finally budding out.  So pretty.

Look at the redbud tree just about the spit of the trunk is a feeder.  Can you see the yellow spot?  The yellow finches are sure bright yellow right now.

I Spy...

Yesterday D21 decided to jump the bowl and go out on  his own exploring.  Well mom being a mom fixed that she surrounded him with his own nest bowl.  He was ok with this til dad landed with a flat bunny and dropped it right on him.  Eventually mom got him back in the bowl before dark and cool temps set in.
Today they have brought in lots of grass, we are expecting rain this week and possible tornadoes, but they are very rambunctious this year.  Should be a year of fun antics.

Yes that white fluff is D21 who decided to dig a tunnel through the new grass.

Happy Easter

It did not take long for D21 to get out of the nest bowl and try for his first escape.  At 9 days old he is a very bold little eaglet.

Can you find Bucky?
