VOTE

Today is another election day.  I enjoy the electricity around going to the polls, filling out my forms, talking to a stranger in line about mindless things and then coming to see if I voted the way the majority did and walking out with my I Voted sticker.  I don't want to vote early because today is kind of like Christmas, there is the excitement of the day. 

Voting is still a privilege in this country and if you are a citizen you should care and vote.  I care more that you vote than how you vote.  And if you don't vote shut up cos you don't have a right to complain.  Also when the returns come in you can have a couple days to complain but not 2 years, grow up already, everyone can't win all the time. 

I am hoping we keep the whole Congress tonight and the governors as well.  So get out there and vote, take a snack cos the lines are long, do your research and vote how you believe and feel not how some movie star or media person tells you how to. What do YOU want the country to look like and vote that way.

Before The Wind

Sunday is to be a windy day which the weather people say will take the leaves down,so they suggest today and tomorrow we get pics of the gorgeous colors this year. I have 3 of these red/gold leaved trees which are just brilliant in color this Fall. I also have some of these purple red trees which are very toned down compared to the others.  My one tree by the garage is usually bright red but not quite there yet, hopefully it will turn before the leaves fall.

There is a New Man in Mom's Life

This morning on the Decorah nest there is a new male with mom bringing in sticks working on the nest for February when eggs are laid.  This is not the same one that showed up after Dad left.  I still believe the one after Dad disappeared was Bob Anderson in eagle form protecting the nest and babies for Dad.  He left when he knew the eaglets were gone and Mom was gonna be ok.  This new male is so handsome. I hope mom chose wisely as she will never find someone like Dad but... we can only hope this one comes close.  Stay tuned to see how it all unravels.

D27 Came Home for a Visit

It looks like D27 visited our banding station on Thursday! We got a call from station master Dave Kester about an eagle that nearly came into one of our nets. While it avoided capture, Sophia noticed it had a backpack and band! We determined it was a second year eagle based on plumage, since a third-year eagle would have had more salt and pepper (dark and pale feathers), and a first year eagle (assuming it was from some other study) would have been darker. At about the same time, Brett let us know that D27 had arrived back in Decorah! We weren't able to track her directly to the station, since her transmitter was in off-cycle when we saw her. But the coordinates we do have put her right in the area. Way to go, D27!

Tajiri is NOT Moving

From Animal Adventure Park:  Tajiri was to move soon but looks like he will be staying put and getting a wife soon.

In the interest of maintaining honesty, integrity and transparency, Animal Adventure Park must announce that it has unexpectedly cancelled the transfer of Tajiri the Giraffe. Requirements and deadlines were not satisfied in the given time frame to make the scheduled transfer by the end of this month possible.
As we've long stated, it is not ideal for Tajiri to remain in the same proximity as his parents, which has prompted the park's owner and contractors to work and plan quickly. Construction will begin Monday to erect the appropriate building to house Tajiri and a possible second giraffe or companion animal, for the colder months, and exhibition in the future. This exhibit will absorb a large portion of the anticipated Wilds of Asia expansion slated for a 2019 opening, likely now delayed. The park anticipates this project will take three to four weeks to reach completion. This will allow a timely transfer to the new space, prior to extreme cold weather, and give April the Giraffe ample time to prepare for her expected calf in 2019.

This decision was made late Thursday after thorough consideration and consultation with park ownership, park veterinarian, and park regulatory agencies, who all unanimously agree that this is the proper course of action. The safety, security and welfare of our animals remains priority number one, and we feel it is best at this time, to keep Tajiri in place, at home, at Animal Adventure Park.

It's That Time of Year

As Summer and Fall duke it out we are having a lot of wind and wet sloppy rain today.  Later in the evening we may some of that white stuff for the first time this season.  The trees are beginning to turn.  My favorites the color is so vibrant.  I have 2 of these in my yard.

There is a sub-adult on the Y branch at N1 at Decorah this afternoon enjoying the snow.

Burnt BIscuits

One of my friends posted this on Facebook and I thought if we could all just take a breath and read this and do what it says.

When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!

All my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that ugly burned biscuit. He ate every bite of that thing...never made a face nor uttered a word about it!
When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said,
"Honey, I love burned biscuits every now and then."
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said,
"Your Mom put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides--a little burned biscuit never hurt anyone!"
As I've grown older, I've thought about that many times. Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people.
I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.
And that's my prayer for you today...
that you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them aside.
We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!
"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket--keep it in your own."
So, please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burned one will do just fine.
Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

The Yellow Velour Sofa

We are having our Fall Fling at church which is basically a garage sale with lunch and baked goods.  When I walked in this morning to finish set up there is this yellow velour sofa.  The first thing I though of was the 60's and how are we gonna sell that.  So I put a Make Offer sign on it.  I am sure it was quite expensive in it's day but who on earth would want this.  I'll let you know if anyone buys it. I sure hope so cos I have no idea how I am gonna get rid of it.

No one bought the sofa although a couple of women were really interested but their housemates said an emphatic no.  It did provide a lot of levity and conversation with people at the sale though.  We ended up making $1500 despite not being able to sell this one of a kind sofa.

Tajari is moving

Tajari is moving from New York to North Carolina, a few hours south on the East coast.  He will be leaving mom and dad at the end of October. I hope his new home has a camera so we can keep tabs on him.  BTW April is pregnant again and we will be on baby watch again next year.  Good Luck Tajari.
